Labl is a versitle label maker for all your label needs. Labl will
create labels from 2 to 10 lines long and from 10 to 50 columns wide.
It supports several printers and will print one,two or three labels across
the page on a standard 8 1/2" printer.
Labl has no set fields, ( name, address, etc ), it simply has a
number of lines that you use to create your labels. You may use more lines
than you need for the labels and use the remainder for notes or what have
you.
A buffer is available to storing often used lines. You may put lines
into and take them out from any label. Labl will sort on any of the lines
you are using. The last deleted label is held in a buffer for undeleting and
moving.
Alt-H Bring up the Help Screen from most menu's.
Esc Aborts most functions
Labl uses random access files so the size of your label file is limited
only by your disk space. I have placed a limit of 30,000 and the number of
labels and 30,000 on the number of copies of each label. There is a limit
of 1500 labels that can be sorted, however. Sorting 1500 labels takes about
3 1/2 minutes.
System Requirements..
256k Memory
Color Graphics
A Hard Disk is highly recommended but not required.
Epson or IBM compatable printer
Starting Labl...
If a filename is entered on the command line, Labl will open that
file or create it if it does not exist. You may also specify the label
width and the number of lines on the command line, when starting a new file.
Example.. Labl Filename 35 5
This will load the named file with a width of 35
and 5 lines in the label.
Leaving out the width and lines will use the default of 32 wide by 5 lines.
If Labl is started without a file name you should select (F)iles
from the opening menu and then select (O)pen from the Files menu.
When you open a file, Labl will look for that filename with
the extension ".CNF". This file contains the program options that you may
change. When you change any defaults you will be given the option of
saving this information.
ADD
---
Selecting Add from the main menu let's you add labels to your file.
You have the number of lines you have selected (1-10) to create your
label. The default number is five.
The label editor uses any character from 32 to 254 so the Alt-Keypad
characters can be used.
Esc - Aborts to main menu, the label you are on is discarded
Return - Pressing return or the down arrow on last line brings up
next label.
Hitting Alt-Function Key will store the current line in the label buffer
on the same line as the Function Key number. Pressing any of the function
keys will bring back the corresponding label line from the buffer.
F1 will retrieve information from buffer line one.
F2 will retrieve information from buffer line two.
Alt F1 will store the current line in buffer line 1
Alt F8 will store the current line in buffer line 8
Alt-C - Copies the previous label to the current label and
brings up the next label for addition.
Alt-B - Will let you view the contents of the buffer.
Alt-L - Will let you view the last label entered.
Alt-T - Inserts System Date at the cursor position.
CHANGE
------
Change is much like the Add function except it will retrieve the label
you want and display it for you to change.
Hitting return on the last line of the current label will bring up
the next label for you to change. Hitting Esc will abort the change
function.
Dn.Arrow - Moves down one line, if pressed on the last line
will bring up the next label.
Up.Arrow - Moves up one line.
Pg.Dn. - Accepts Changes and brings up the next label.
Pg.Up. - Brings up the last label. ( No Changes Accepted )
Alt-D - Deletes the current label and brings up the next.

in progress will interrupt the printing. Pressing Esc
will abort the printing.
You may preview your labels by printing them to the screen
to see the effects of various tab widths on your labels.
Pressing Esc aborts screen printing. Pressing the spacebar

Note: Screen printing does not accuratly reflect what you will
get on the printer when Condensed and Double Wide styles

copies of each label.

it is easy to screw things up.
The Finagle Option also allow you to send control strings
to your printer.
Input the control strings as Ascii Decimal characters.
Example (Esc "E")
27 69 - emphasized print
* When printing 2 or 3 wide and you want more than one copy.
Add 1 or 2 labels to make the number of labels evenly
divisible by the number of labels wide.
This will prevent wasting labels when printing.
Ex. Printing 3 wide and you have 13 labels : add 2 to make
15 labels.
Options - Takes you to the Options Screen.
Quit - Returns to Main Menu.
OPTIONS SCREEN
--------------
Lines in Label - (default 5) Sets the number of lines in your labels.
Changing this number brings up the convert screen.

*** Convert requires as much free disk space as the length
of your label file. Convert will check for this space
and do nothing if there is not enough space.
Width of Lines - (default 32) You may change the width from 10 to 50
columns. Default with is just about right for
1 wide labels.
Printer Type - (default - generic printer) The default merely sends
(1-3) the label out to the printer, changing type styles
is not possible.
#1 Generic
#2 IBM/Epson/Star
#3 Okidata 92 * might work
Type Styles - 1 Letter Quality

3 Compressed
4 Double Wide

You may set the label lines to more than the lines
to print and use the unprinted lines for information
or what-ever.
Labels Across - (Default 1) You may print your labels 1,2,or 3 across
the page. But be careful if your labels are too wide
they will not print properly if you have selected
2 or 3 across.
Lines to Skip - When printing fewer lines than the label contains
you will have to increase the number of lines skipped
between labels.
Highlight Top - If you have selected a IBM or Epson printer you may
highlight the first line of your label.
FILES SCREEN
------------
Open - Opens an existing file for use or creates a new file.
Dir - Hitting Ret. when asked for a drive will display

of your label file. Pack will check for this space
and do nothing if there is not enough space.
Sort - Will sort your file on the line you specify. You may
select ascending or descending sort from the options
menu. Sort has a limit of 1500 labels ( 375k at 5 lines
to the label).
*** Sort requires as much free disk space as the length
of your label file. Sort will check for this space
and do nothing if there is not enough space.
In/Out
Import - Import will ask you for a file name and the number of
labels to import. It will then add these labels
to the end of your label file.
(Imports Ascii Files Only)
Export - Writes your file out to the file name you specify as a
comma delimited ascii file.
Run - Allow you to leave Labl and go to the operating system.
Type exit to return to Labl.

I have tried to make Lab'l as flexable and simple to use as
possible and it appears to work well for me .
But if there are any obvious bugs, or you just can't get the
thing to work, give me a call. Maybe I can help.
Any suggestions will be welcome.
